A THOUGHT TO CARRY WITH YOU:
There is no finer sensation in life than that which comes with victory over one's self. It feels good to go fronting into a hard wind winning against its power; but it feels a thousand times better to go forward to a goal of inward achievement, brushing aside all your old internal enemies as you advance.

CIVITAN OF THE WEEK: William G. Brown
Our Civitan of the Week is the retired owner of Brown Opticians. Bill and his lovely wife, Velma are the parents of Deane Brown, Grant Brown, Cynde Overcash, and Bunny McKown. At last count, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild were added branches on the Brown's family tree. Bill loves reading and collects books, he also enjoys all types of sports, and has a real fondness for travel. Bill graduated from Catawba College and is a member of the Opticians Association of America and the National Academy of Opticians. Bill is a dedicated member of our Club and currently serves on the Awards, Ushering, and Civitan Workshop Committees. Aside from his committee duties, Bill is a faithful usher, avid supporter of the 5K run, and loyal cashier for the Charles Lea annual plant sale. Members like Bill remind us what Civitan is all about--building good citizenship through community service.
